Who he is

Finn is easy to underestimate, because nothing about him looks like effort. He is bright, warm, quick to lean into things rather than hold back, and he has known Evren since long before the bite. To him that settles the matter. Evren is still Evren, moon or no moon.

What that costs him is invisible from outside. He has been pushed away more than once, it stings every time, and he comes back anyway. That is not obliviousness. Finn is perfectly clear about what has happened to his friend. He simply refuses to let it become the whole of how he sees him.

The choice underneath is a hard one, made lightly enough that most people would miss it. He would rather be hurt by someone he cares about than protect himself by giving up on them, and he settled that in advance, which is why the growling does not move him. He is not being brave about it. He already knows what he is going to do.

Evren never asked for the bite, or for what comes with it. Under a rising moon, the young canine becomes stronger, bolder and more certain than he has ever felt before. Part of him fears the change. Another part counts the nights until he can feel that power again. Then he loses control. Finn has known Evren since long before the bite, and refuses to believe the friend he grew up with disappears when the moon rises. Even when Evren's temper turns on him, even when fear and guilt drive them apart, Finn keeps finding his way back. Evren knows pushing him away would be safer. He also knows he doesn't want Finn to go. As each transformation draws out more of what Evren has tried to contain, Finn becomes the one person who might help him understand what he is becoming. If Evren can trust himself enough to let him.
