I only ever wanted somewhere quiet to be - and someone to notice I was there.

- Tendrul

Who he is

Tendrul is enormous and spends his life managing other creatures' reaction to that fact. He keeps to a secluded cove, avoids the attention his size invites, and judges himself constantly by how he imagines he is being seen, a habit that keeps him more alone than he ever chose to be. Strength he has in abundance and almost never uses. Confrontation is something he steps around.

The evidence that this is loneliness rather than preference is Wren, which comes to the shoreline near his cove, and with which he arrived at something like trust across many quiet evenings, slowly, because slowly is the only way he believes trust can honestly happen. A creature that genuinely wanted solitude would not have spent that many evenings being patient with a visitor.

He shares his water with Moros, shaped by the same isolation and drawing the opposite conclusion from it. His wish is small and he rarely says it. Not to be admired, not to be feared, only noticed, by someone who stayed long enough to look.

Voice Beneath the Tide

Relentless storms drive Tendrul from the open sea and into the calm waters of a secluded cove. Hidden beneath the waves, he finds something he has spent much of his life avoiding: someone who might notice him. Wren returns to the shoreline each evening. At first, Tendrul only watches. Then a few words across the water become conversations, and conversations become a friendship neither expected. She knows his voice, his thoughts and the parts of himself he has dared to share. She does not know what waits beneath the surface. When Moros discovers their friendship, the old Sea Code leaves no room for compromise. Land and sea are meant to remain apart, and Moros is determined to protect that boundary before either of them pays the price for crossing it. Tendrul can retreat beneath the waves and remain the voice Wren trusts, or risk being seen as everything he fears she will see.
